We Are X
"Constantly asking, 'Why am I here?' What am I doing in this world?”, I seem to be looking for a reason to die. That’s why I play drums like there’s no tomorrow,” says Yoshiki Hayashi, co-founder of one of Japan’s main rock bands, X Japan, at the beginning of the film. X Japan, true to its name, is a very Japanese group - the film talks about honor, dignity, trying to enter the Western market and the fact that at any point in life you must be ready to carry out the will of the emperor. All the critics vied with each other to praise the group, Stan Lee, Gene Simmons and Marilyn Manson make brief appearances bowing their heads in respect, fans are crazy about them, but in fact this film is not about success and how to achieve everything you wanted in life. “We Are X” only initially shows the preparations for the band’s important concert at Madison Square Garden. Yoshiki talks about his father's death and does not hesitate to show his visits to doctors, only sometimes refusing to talk about too personal things. Toshi, Yoshiki's vocalist and longtime friend, candidly answers questions about his time in the cult and the times he had to leave the group. The remaining participants rather remain in the background - but only to emphasize this story of many years of friendship that survived the death of loved ones, breakdowns, misunderstandings and quarrels.
