The Book Thief
Germany, early 1939, on the eve of World War II. Death is preparing to begin its harvest. Nine-year-old Liesel moves to Munich to live with her adoptive parents and, with their help, learns to read. Every day reading becomes her vital need, and Liesel begins to steal books - the only joy of her life. Everything she learns from them helps her understand the events happening around her - the persecution of Jews, the anti-fascist movement, humiliation and hunger. All this will eventually add up to her own story, the story of her life.
