Following the death of King Robert Baratheon and the execution of Lord Eddard Stark, the Seven Kingdoms are plunged into civil war. The powerful House of Lannister supports Joffrey Baratheon's rights to the Iron Throne, and Renly and Stannis Baratheon oppose them and each other, with the latter enlisting the support of a mysterious priestess from the far east. The Lannisters are also opposed by Robb Stark, who was proclaimed King of the North. He wishes to avenge his father and separate himself from the Seven Kingdoms. However, while Robb is fighting in the south, Balon Greyjoy from the Iron Islands has his eye on his lands.
