Beginning of the 18th century. Cartographer Jonathan Green makes a scientific journey from Europe to the East. Having passed through Transylvania and overcome the Carpathian Mountains, he finds himself in a village lost among impenetrable forests. Only chance and thick fog could have brought him to this damned place. The people living here are unlike any the traveler has ever seen. These people, having protected themselves from the rest of the world with a deep ditch, naively believe that they can protect themselves from evil spirits, not realizing that it has already settled in their souls for a long time and is only waiting for an opportunity to break out. Even in a nightmare, the materialist scientist did not imagine that here he was destined to meet with the faithful servant of the devil.
